Professor of Digital Factory & MedTech
Prof. Dr. Jens Fürst
As Professor of Digital Factory & MedTech at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Principal Key Expert for digitalisation, automation and smart factory transformation at Siemens Healthineers, he connects current academic research with industrial practice. His aim is to shape the future of digital and automated production systems in the MedTech industry.
At FAU, he is part of the leadership team of the FAPS institute with more than 120 research staff and heads the research area Digital Factory & MedTech. Focus areas include humanoid robotics and Physical AI, agentic AI for self-organising production and digital twins.
At Siemens Healthineers, he designed and led the High Energy Photonics Center in Forchheim, the company's first “digital native” factory, with an end-to-end digital twin and more than 20 robotics and automation projects. Today he leads the global Smart Factory Network there across more than 40 plants.
With more than 70 patents, he brings extensive experience in robotics, automation, integrated production systems and digital transformation. His training as a physicist (Dr. rer. nat., University of Bayreuth), combined with an MBA in Digital Transformation, links scientific depth with strategic leadership.
His concern is to advance medical technology through holistic digital factory concepts, to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and to support the next generation of engineers, innovators and researchers.

Jonas Fürst
Jonas Fürst is Managing Director and co-founder of FAPTec GmbH and contributes experience in consulting, automation and robotics. The foundation is a bachelor in International Production Engineering and Management at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and a master programme in mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich.
Consulting practice comes from work as a Senior Consultant at Junior Consulting Team e. V. and from IT consulting with a focus on process mining. At Siemens Healthineers, Jonas Fürst works in Technology and Innovation Strategy on strategic technology projects as well as market and competitor analyses, including an assignment at the Shanghai Innovation Center. Earlier work there focused on component design and construction in prototype building for special-purpose machinery.
